Case Studies > Power Electronics Cooling
Overview
A major overseas power conditioning supplier approached TES with the idea of manufacturing a complete dual cooling system all contained within a steel cabin complete with full computer control and information data link for installation in the USA. Traditionally these systems were mainly installed within a purpose built plant room and were supplied in parts, installed and connected at site This application required a complete and ready to go system with all equipment pre made and tested. All to allow for a very short installation period.

The Solution
For this application with client supplied data and input TES designed an extremely compact and yet easily accessible system with all noise generating plant contained within a sealed and ventilated plant room with the entry doors opening into a computer / control room.

Outcome
All equipment was shipped to USA and placed into position. TES visited site and commissioning was completed in two weeks.
General Features:
Fully automatic operation
Full data link to station overall controller.
Heat Exchangers with integral frost protection.
Integrated computer control room. Insulated, heated, ventilated and with comfort floor.
Inbuilt Nitrogen Generator for water de-oxygen and capping system.
Inbuilt maintenance rail to allow for lifting block attachment for easy heavy plant removal / overhaul.

Technical Details
2 off independent systems built within a steel cabin. Each system designed to pump a constant 1980 lpm of ultra pure insulating water at 5 bar to a set of high power electronic devices where 950 kW of heat is gained and onward to 3 off dual air to pure water and specially frost protected heat exchangers. Here the gained heat energy is given up to the +48°C ambient air thereby cooling the ultra pure water. The cooled ultra pure water is then returned to the pumps for the cycle to be repeated.
